The bowl, scored
I measured my morning bowl against my protein target. The seeds are omega-3 and fibre foods, not protein foods, and I had cut the wrong ingredient.
On 11/10/2026 I weighed every ingredient in my morning bowl: chia, flax, hemp hearts, two plant yogurts, blackberries, apple and manuka honey. Then I scored it against the target Jibran and I set ourselves, 100 to 110 g of protein a day in a calorie deficit.
The bowl gave 32 g of protein for 632 kcal. Chia and flax deliver 3.4 g of protein per 100 kcal; the day needs 8.5. The two items I had kept for taste, honey and apple, were 102 kcal with no protein. The ingredient I had cut to save calories, oats, is cheaper per gram of protein than any of the seeds and is the only one of the four with strong trial evidence for fullness and LDL.
So the seeds stay, at the doses the trials used: 10 g chia, 10 g ground flax, 20 g hemp. Oats come back at 40 g. The honey and apple go. A scoop of soy protein anchors the meal. Same calories, 58 g of protein.
The bigger finding was about the calorie target itself. My basal rate is about 1,950 kcal; 900 to 1,300 a day is under half of what I burn at rest, and the literature on lean mass and testosterone under that kind of restriction is not kind. I am changing the target, and the Whoop trend is the referee.
This is the first ingredient of the school food pursuit: a recipe that is sourced, costed and scored before anyone pitches it to a school. The scope is now on the pursuits page.
